Hi I’m Matthew Camastro. I’m a passionate and dedicated music educator who specializes in teaching a healthy technique to promote playing with ease and at the highest musical expression. My primary goal is for my students, regardless of age or skill level, to grow as musicians and maximize their potential. I was also recently featured on Fox Carolina.

What Makes Me Different...
Healthy Technique
During my bachelor’s degree in music education, I hit a wall. I had gone as far as traditional piano techniques could take me and had experienced injuries trying to push past these limitations. It was then when I discovered the Taubman approach, a groundbreaking new piano technique that helps students overcome technical limitations and prevent piano related injuries.
Switching to the Taubman method required me to relearn everything I thought I knew about piano, but it was so worth it. I now had the technique, skills, and health to push past these previous barriers and grow exponentially as a musician.
Now I have the amazing opportunity to teach this healthy piano technique to students from the start, so they don’t have to go through the struggle and pain that I had to. Instead, through my lessons each student can become a healthy, skilled piano player.
Teaching Experience
With a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College and over 10 years of teaching experience, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from the world’s top piano instructors and teach many students. I am also the only certified instructor of the Taubman Approach through the Golandsky Institute in South Carolina. No matter the age or skill level of the student, I am confident we can achieve success together.
Personalized Approach
Each student has different goals, skills, and baseline abilities and I customize a unique program for each of my students. Unlike large music schools that push a one-size-fits-all system, I tailor my approach to what will allow them to succeed the fastest.
I love teaching piano and connecting with my students each lesson!
What My Students Are Saying...
My child has excelled in a short time with Matthew. Although we are taking the summer off due to camps and vacation we will go back to him in August!! I would not recommend any other piano teacher!! She played at church and people were so surprised at how good she was and shocked she hadn't been taking piano for years, instead of months! -Amy R.
Matt is a wonderful, patient, and thorough teacher. He will do anything and everything to make sure you understand what you are playing and why. He is amazing with teaching technique and has helped me feel more relaxed and confident at the piano. I highly recommend him! -Tayler C.
Frequently Asked Questions
I teach all skill levels and all ages as young as seven; it’s never too early or too late to start learning how to play piano.
What Will I Learn?
I train my students in how to read music, healthy piano technique, enjoying practicing, and how to perform at the highest level (if that’s their goal).
Where Are You Located?
Camastro Piano Studio is located in Taylors, SC within close driving distance from Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, and other surrounding areas. I prefer to host all my lessons at my studio, but occasionally make exceptions along with a commute charge.
Dynamic Performer
I have studied a wide range of piano literature and performed extensively across the United States. My numerous solo recitals received professional acclaim from faculty of various music schools and featured major works by Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Prokofiev, and more.
During my time at Bob Jones University, I placed first in the annual program-wide music competition in 2019 after reaching finals the year before. In addition, I have participated in a wide variety of masterclasses through BJU, Queens College, and the Golandsky Institute. I was privileged to serve as the 2024 Artist-in-Residence at Bob Jones University. As a collaborative pianist, I have worked with soloists on over a dozen solo recitals and masterclasses. I have enjoyed serving as the pianist in my local church for the past nine years as well.
